And he had 200 yards plus versus us. Carolina sucks too. Looks like Wade Phillips in mid season form. For the life of me I can’t figure out why the Rams don’t believe in run defense. No name nose tackles and undersized ILBers are the name of the game.

I'm not one to be negative about this team either, but the OP has a point that CMC is great, but he's not automatic if you have a solid game plan on stopping him and have sure tackling. It's 1 game. More needs to happen to get negative, but the run D looks soft AGAIN, and Wade needs to address this issue. We need to win games where we score 14 or 17 points. I think this D can be a lot better than 2018 with all the adds/rookies. Gotta get better.

I kind of cut them a break for opening day and a win is a win but yeah, I noticed that too. The Rams always seem to make it harder for themselves. Tampa Bay played that right and won by more with far less talent than we have. I don't understand how your game plan wouldn't be to shut down the run and make superman Cam beat you with his arm. And what's with him? He just doesn't look like the same guy anymore. Even his body language is different.

Rams play run D with 10 guys. On one goal line run I believe Peters demurred on a tackle

If we're going to harp on Wade for Sunday...let's also remember the good. Back to back weeks in January vs. Dallas (50 yards, 2.3 YPC) and New Orleans (48, 2.3) they showed up big time. Maybe let's give this year's group some time to gel??

Also, could be that with a week of film on the 2019 Panthers the Bucs decided to just load up and stop #22 at all costs.

This could be a better D than the D that took a ton of crap last year for helping win 13 regular season games and getting to the SB. If I see the score correctly the team won the game.
I remember when Spags used to be "proud" of a team that "didn't quit".

Thank you! Nobody owned 4-12 better than a Spags "4 pillars" team. Let's enjoy our third straight opening week win under McVay.

It was raining and the field was wet and sluggish field. Which benefits the D.

The rams defense tired out playing in the heat (game 1) which Tampa didnt have to play in.

As I said before, no time to panic, and too early to be overly critical of Wade. But the run D looked sloppy again. This is not a new issue. Will see.

I can only imagine how painful it was for McCaff to muster up the effort he did after going through that brutal Rams game just 4 days earlier. You’re comparing the rusty Rams opening against a TB team that knows Carolina and McCaffrey very well on MFN. TB may even flat out have a better D than the Rams. Wade has always been bend not break and that was good for 15 wins and almost a SB victory holding the great Patriots to their lowest SB points ever.

Let me be clear. I don’t like the 3/4 and I’m not crazy about Wade’s priorities. Where "he who will go unnamed" seems to ALWAYS be able to make a eunuch out of your best weapon and make you beat him with your 2nd, 3rd or 4th options, Wade always seems to play rope-a-dope letting you wear out your biggest threat so he’s gassed in the 4th Q. LOL At least that’s what it seems like at times. I have no doubt Kamara will have a similar day and we have Thomas to worry about as well. People are getting hip to the Swiss army knife QB Hill and he’s not taking teams by surprise anymore but once again, someone will go off on the Rams D and I am hoping we can still pull out a W with our Offense. I don’t have a lot of faith in Wade’s D early in the season. Once again, they have a long way to go to be elite.

I'm confused why people don't want to admit that McCaffery is a good running back.

McCaffery is a good running back. Really good.
Rams need to figure out how to stop the run. Let's give it a few more games. Wins are all we care about. I just think we need to win with <30 points. Tighten up the run D.

And yes- MP did give a hall pass to the endzone on that short run. I think he knew there was no shot at a pick 6, so why risk injury.

Panthers have started the season with 2 home losses.
I thought they might win that division this year. Go figure!

Saying Goff wasn’t good week 1 and the rams defense hasn’t been good under wade Phillips doesn’t make me negative. It’s just facts.

CMC was running into a wall yesterday. Honestly hate the 3-4. Go 4-3 and get a Todd Bowles as DC. I think Phillips is washed.

Rams defense was good in the post-season last year. So yes it has been good under Wade. Though, yeah, not consistently good.

Good enough to go 26-10 over the past two seasons after going 11-21 in the two seasons prior to Phillips. Yeah he’s washed up😂

The defense is not primarily responsible for those wins, though there were games where they made strong contribution due to big plays. Last year in the regular season they were 20th in points allowed, 19th in yards, 23rd in rushing yards allowed, and 32nd in yards per carry allowed.

Obviously Wade is not washed up, as his defenses showed in the playoffs.

But there';s room for improvement over last year as a whole.

Perfectly said. Wade's unit last year took forever to play well, it basically only played really well when playoffs started. Most of the games in regular season we had to score 400 points to win the game because our defense was allowing 380. But I give props to the old man at least his unit showed up big in the playoffs and SB. I think they played well Considering last week was the first game and no pre season snaps.. They really only allowed 20 points because 7 of the 27 Carolina put up, they only needed 5 yards to get that td after that stupid punt that was blocked inside our own 5 yard. That td was inevitable and not to blame on the defense. So they only really allowed 20 points.

IMO....The scheme is not to blame...because you prefer a 4-3 is really what this post is about. Take a look at presnap photos and then show the difference...Wade still rushes 4 they just don't know which one is coming...this is a preference post and not really a break down post.

I'd be ok with that except TB had a goal line stand against them didn't they?

I noticed last year that Peters avoids contact. Saw it again in Carolina....

Tampa will have a good year. Brees will get injured vs Rams or Dallas. Tampa will get the playoff spot.
