I pretty much agree but I would go 9-7 for ceiling. Lack of pass rush scares me.

A lot of that was pretty decent as a take on the Rams, but when they got to Goff it was the classic mistake. They say he regressed a bit but then don't mention how the OL caused him problems. Very few qbs DON'T regress when their OL Is that much of a problem. That just keeps showing up as the biggest blindspot in NFL qb analysis.

Not a coincidence that Goff's performance markedly improved when the OL played average and Sean went to 12p a lot more while actually throwing to the TE's regularly.

12-4

Gurley situation destroyed team cohesiveness and led to chaos and confusion. Addition by subtraction. McVay will improve play variety as offense looks to be elite.

Staley defense will create mode turnovers even with unproven lb corps.

AD sets sack record.

More on that. 3 qbs from last year, including Goff.

Rivers. His OL was famously beat up all last year. Rivers regressed and that was a result of the OL issues. They were 6th in passing yards but went 5-11 which indicates they were passing to catch up. It was not a good season for Rivers--he fell from a 105.5 qb rating in 2018 to an 88.5 qb rating in 2019. This included his worst TD % in his career. He had a good completion percentage but that went along with having a low yards per attempt (7.03). It was also one of his worst years for INTs. SD had no running game.

Ryan. His OL famously struggled in 2019, in part due to injuries. Like SD Atlanta had no running game. He was sacked a lot (highest sack percentage of his career), had a low yards per attempt (6.25), but was a gamer behind a bad OL. He too did not play as well as 2018 (qb rating fell from 108.1 to 92.1).

Goff. We know his situation.

As it stands all 3 had OL issues, and all 3 fell off from 2018, as measured by qb rating and team record (the record is not all on the qb but it indicates a struggling team).

year, qb rating, record

Rivers
2018 105.5, 12-4
2019 88.5, 5-11

Ryan
2018 108.1, 7-9
2019 92.1, 7-9

Goff
2018 101.1, 13-3
2019 86.5, 9-7

How did our o line get ranked #1 for pass protection, then? The line stunk more in run blocking than in protecting Goff.

It's not ranked #1 in pass protection, not by anybody.

Here;s the thing. Goff was #1 in attempts, and the Rams were first in sacks allowed. But they allowed pressures.

If you are first in attempts, high in pressures, and don't allow sacks--there is only one explanation for the low sacks. The qb.

Goff was trying to make plays, sometimes pressing, throwing even though the timing was off and he couldn't step up or set himself right. That just means Goff and obviously McVay too were willing to trade accuracy for being low in sacks.

And it's impossible to say the OL could not run block effectively--because Gurley was not the same back. He did not have the same ability to make yards on his own past the LOS.

Good article reported Rams are addressing these issues in 3 ways. 1. Goff has been working to evade pressure and throw better off his back foot. 2. The oline is healthy 3. MOST IMPORTANT. New OC is planning to throw quick passes when defenses pour through the A gap.

I've been saying for a while the Rams will be 12 - 4
49ers and Seahawks will be 8 - 8
Cardinals will be 6 - 10

The head to head match ups in the division will be a factor. If we can go 4-2; we should be right there at the wire.

Agreed!

Our team needs to at least split with the 49ers and Seahawks, while once again sweeping the Cardinals.

A record of 11-5 will probably win the NFC West this year, assuming that there actually is a full season--the Rams might manage that with decent luck, plus being tightly focused in every game.

They can't afford any 'letdowns' like the Buccaneers and Steelers matchups last year though... ;) :? :|

ram pathos...
